Berks County prepares for costly upgrade to emergency communications system
From the Reading Eagle (07/12/10):
A military helicopter was flying overhead on June 11, its occupants trying to spot the body of a boy who drowned while swimming near the confluence of the Schuylkill River and Tulpehocken Creek.
City police and firefighters on the ground couldn't communicate with the pilot or county emergency units helping at the scene. The antiquated radio system that prevented them from talking to one another made recovery of the boy's body more difficult.
